WRITTEN RESOURCES

As part of our supporting one another, the NSN regularly produces free downloadable resources for nannies & au pairs to use at work and in their lives.

We have downloadable contracts, risk assessments, job descriptions, and more. Many nanny contracts these days are written to protect your employers, not you. We hope that our resources can help ensure that you are protected at work from day one.

Template - Request for Risk Assessment

This is a template letter to your employer to request a risk assessment. As part of any employed role, you are entitled to a risk assessment that your employers must carry out to make sure you are working safely. Especially during COVID-19, risk assessments are a vital way of setting boundaries between employees and employers and ensuring that nannies & au pairs are protected in their workplaces.

Template - Self-Employed Contract

While we do not recommend self-employed nanny contracts as

a) Nannies are not generally considered as self-employed
b) Self-employment leaves nannies vulnerable to exploitation

However, if you do choose to be self-employed, please make sure to sign an independent contractor agreement with your employer.

It is your employer’s responsibility to carry out an Employment Status check to confirm you are eligible to be self-employed for this role. This help protest you in cases of false self-employment (where you are being treated as an employee but paid as a contractor).

Sample description of roles - Live-out vs live-out vs au pair

This document is designed to help you understand what can reasonably be expected of you as an au pair, live-in, or live-out nanny. Specifically, we detail what an au pair role looks like and when it crosses over into a live-in worker role (which should be paid at an hourly rate). We also outline what is fair and unfair for your employer to ask you to do (eg. cleaning).
